Developing the next generation of rated analysts
Dominique Laroque and Syd Vianello have been mentoring aspirant investment professionals for many years – they met as colleagues in Nedbank’s research team in 2007, where they were involved in a programme to recruit and upskill young talent. They lead Integram’s research team of young graduates from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.
Trainee analysts are permanently employed and actively involved in researching companies, analysing data and interfacing with clients from the day they join the team. In the past seven years this has helped launch the careers of 11 young people, four of whom have already become rated analysts.

Dominique Laroque
Raised culturally French by parents who were highly educated, liberal thinkers, Dominique was shocked by the glass ceiling she encountered one week into her first job as a professional quantity surveyor. This prompted her to study further to develop a competitive edge in the male-dominated construction industry. Three years later, through night school, she obtained a degree in business law.
Her unusual combination of skills led to interesting work opportunities throughout Africa and the Middle East where she controlled the finances of a range of construction projects from office blocks and hospitals to roads, open-cast mines, coastal dune management and the Lesotho Highlands Water Scheme. However, from the age of 14 and guided by her father, Dominique had run her own share portfolio and was fascinated by financial markets. So after 10 years in heavy construction, she moved into investment banking. She worked for international and local banks until she started Integram in 2017.
Out of curiosity, the Integram team began researching sustainability (ESG) risk, little knowing that this would become ‘the next big thing’ in the investment industry. Under Dominique’s guidance and with her passion for sustainability, her team has been ranked no 3 in South Africa for the past five years, competing against the likes of big banks and international stockbrokers.
Dominique lives on a smallholding with her family and numerous animals, many rescued and rehabilitated. She met her husband doing community service work as police reservists in the 1990s and they remain active in charitable and community initiatives. Leisure time includes gardening, horse riding and collecting antiques.

Syd Vianello
Syd was an analyst for almost 30 years before retiring from Nedbank in 2013. Over his career, he has covered virtually all listed consumer stocks on the JSE, achieving top rankings in most consumer sectors. His in-depth knowledge of global consumer companies and passion for financial markets means he is in high demand as a market commentator in the media and guest lecturer at universites and other learning institutions.
His retirement has been busier than he envisaged. He is in charge of Integram’s strategy and selection of stocks for coverage. He works closely with the research team, but also takes responsibility for key financial management functions. He has been a partner in a successful fuel retail business for some 20 years.
Syd is very much a family man. He travels regularly with his wife and son Jake and has a particular fondness for the South African bushveld. A keen dog lover, Syd can often be seen walking his dogs in the mornings before the market opens.

Jaquieline Monama
Born and raised in Limpopo, South Africa, Jaquieline showed an interest in business from a young age, which translated into a love for numbers in high school and her tertiary education in finance and accounting.
After graduating from University of Limpopo, Jaquieline worked briefly in financial management at Prince Investment Group Pty Ltd, gaining experience in Sage One Accounting. She joined Integram in 2019 as a trainee analyst. Given her strong interest in the social performance aspects of ESG research, integrated thinking ability of boards and AGM voting patterns, she progressed quickly and is now a core member of the research team, receiving mention in the Financial Mail annual Ranking the Analysts Survey since 2022.
Jaquieline is based in Pretoria but travels regularly to Limpopo to visit her family. She is a self-confessed lover of green tea, music and TV series, and plans to start her post-graduate studies in 2026.

Nabintu Birindwa
Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nabintu has lived in South Africa since 2010. Her interest in business became evident at an early age, influencing her choice of subjects in high school and her tertiary education.
She completed her schooling in Johannesburg and went on to study BCom at the University of Johannesburg, majoring in accounts.
Soon after graduating, Nabintu joined Integram as a trainee analyst. Working with other team members, she immersed herself in Integram’s research process – learning the ropes, so to speak, remarkably quickly by reading extensively and applying her mind. She is passionate about analysing remuneration governance.
Nabintu’s bubbly personality and serious commitment to her work make her a valuable member of Integram’s team.
She is based in Pretoria, enjoys reading, music and going on mini outings with her friends and family.

Jake Vianello
Jake matriculated in 2019, after which he relocated overseas to participate in a structured educational and cultural programme. He engaged in community service, internship programmes, contributed to volunteer initiatives, and gained firsthand experience of cultural diversity through travel and hands-on learning. After his studies were interrupted by geopolitical tensions and the outbreak of war, he returned to South Africa and joined Integram as a student intern.
He brings fresh knowledge of global focus areas in environmental and social sustainability to the Integram team. This adds depth to our research product by including ESG data that tracks company performance and enables comparison between companies. Between research reports, Jake is developing a set of sustainability criteria for the main sectors on the JSE to facilitate more detailed intra-sector comparison and risk analysis.
Jake is a talented cricketer, although work-life balance means that these days he is seen more often in the stands than on the pitch. He is also a keen poker player – a skill he hones regularly with a group of friends.
